To understand Tshegue, you just have to watch them on stage. Watch how the band carries this fire, these vibrations and this trance, surrenders to this ballet of rhythms and propels its transcended audience as far as it can, between Kinshasa and Paris.
Meeting in Paris in the mid-2010s, Faty Sy Savanet and Nicolas “Dakou” Dacunha unveiled a first EP in 2017 mixing rock, blues, electro, funk and African beats sung in Lingala, which drew in an audience as broad as their mix of genres.
Tshegue keep showing their hybrid side with their return, the project Argent (rated “4T” by Télérama). Their music comes straight out of ancestral sounds, raw, organic and carnal, yet it is contemporary and well-informed, full of political, artistic and personal questions. It doesn’t give away all its secrets straight away, but you listen to it the way you watch a crowd dance: you’re bound to find yourself in it.
