Since emerging in 2015, Sextile have been a force of the Los Angeles underground, capable of triggering a riot with the raw sound of a synth or the jab of a guitar. Originally formed by Brady Keehn and Melissa Scaduto after their move from New York to Los Angeles, Sextile released their first album A Thousand Hands in 2015, with its Grand Canyon-sized echoes, haunted screams and post-punk invocations, before pushing the synths further with the 2017 effort, Albeit Living.
Sextile’s taste for electronics matured on the throbbing EBM-meets-industrial of the 2018 record 3, made from an analogue stockpile including their trusty Korg MS-10 and LinnDrum, but the band put things on hold shortly after the album’s release. Eddie Wuebben (guitarist, synth player and an original member of Sextile, who joined in 2015) tragically died in October 2019. Cameron Michel subsequently rejoined the band on guitar and synths. Separately, each turned to other projects, with Scaduto on S. Product, Keehn on Panther Modern, and Michel as a visual artist. In 2022, the band reconnected and released their first new music in three years with the split single “Modern Weekend / Contortion” and “Crassy Mel”.
In 2023, they came back refreshed, renewed and ready to rage with a serotonin-boosting new album, a new band dynamic, faster BPMs and a new, even wilder direction. Recorded in Yucca Valley, Push bounces around the margins of hardcore dance music, with the hallmarks of drum & bass, gabber and trance lighting up the album like glow sticks at a 90s Fantazia rave. Looking to the future, the band are preparing to release a new album in 2025, promising even more boundary-pushing sounds to keep the dancefloors alive.
