ALO WALA, which means “seller of light” in a mix of Hindi and Bengali, creates a hybrid sound combining otherworldly rap, thunderous bass and sonic influences from all over the world.

ALO WALA is the sound of a new world and a new way of thinking about one another within an interconnected global society.

Since her debut in 2014, ALO WALA has carved out a path by driving her militant yet joyful music onto the dancefloor, creating a sonic signature all her own. Having lived on four continents, ALO WALA passes on through her music the lessons about humanity she has drawn from her travels across the globe.

In the past, this Punjabi-American singer and MC released two EPs: Cityboy in 2014 (Enchufada label) and Vibrate To Win in 2015, both produced by the Danish beatmaking team Copia Doble Systema. She also released a handful of singles, including standout tracks like “Little Logo” (2015) feat. Nucleya & Mc. Zulu.

These projects earned the artist recognition and appearances at numerous festivals such as Glastonbury (UK), Roskilde (DK), Sunburn (India), Dour (Belgium) and Sole DXB (Dubai), to name only a few. ALO WALA’s hypnotic show has clearly won the hearts and ears of audiences worldwide, having played more than 150 shows across several continents and been acclaimed by pioneers such as Buraka Som Sistema, Branko, Clap! Clap!, Nucleya and many more…

It’s 2023, and ALO WALA returns with her next EP, TOUGH GAINS, out on 16 June 2023. TOUGH GAINS embodies her feverish need for explosive music, relentless rap and a realistic attitude. Collectively, the four songs that make up TOUGH GAINS depict a space-time where victories don’t come easily, and are always backed by effort and perseverance.

Sonically, TOUGH GAINS is a blend of genres, referencing British music culture and various dances. Even so, the EP has an artistic consistency carried by the Sub 808, oriental notes and ALO WALA’s authentic storytelling. Composed by an anonymous team of producers working under the name Satori Stereo Saiyan, TOUGH GAINS offers a collection of captivating and sometimes explosive songs that build in power as the EP progresses.

Visually, ALO WALA calls on her family, her husband and long-time collaborator Jamil GS, and her old friend Emeka Alams of GCTC, giving her music all the splendour it deserves.

TOUGH GAINS will be followed by ALO WALA’s first album, due for release in early 2024 on X-Ray Production.
