With Yolande Bashing and its out-of-tune revolution, Baptiste (a Lille actor who broke away from the electro-punk band Les Dents) goes solo with a sung techno-pop that is raw and made by feel. Somewhere between wired melancholy and sad rage, his disillusioned lyrics rub up against throbbing beats, balanced on shaky synths. Yolande Bashing invites Claude François and Jean-Pierre Pernaut to the sad party of a forgotten betting bar: his heavy-industry mashup of Hubert-Félix Thiéfaine and Stromae stokes disillusion with harsh decibels and killer punchlines.
