An atypical DJ collective and record label on the Paris scene, Mawimbi has been building bridges since 2013 between a musical heritage from the Black Atlantic (Africa, the Caribbean, South America) and contemporary electronic sounds. After setting most of the Paris clubs and major French festivals ablaze (Transmusicales, Nuits Sonores, Garorock, Montreux, Solidays, RBMA Paris) with their waves (“mawimbi” in Swahili), Mawimbi now asserts itself as a label bringing fresh air to today’s musical landscape by developing emerging projects (Loya, Onipa, Burland, Afriquoi), helping define what an eclectic, uninhibited and fiercely inventive “world 2.0” might be. The collective is now preparing a first self-titled record, with several very special guests, released in 2020!
